WGSN's City by City team puts together a curated list of the must-know exhibitions coming up globally, including sensory experiences, digital worlds and natural cycles.

While the arts and culture scene has returned to pre-pandemic levels, its digital legacy is here to stay. Across the globe, digital experiences jostle for space amid a new wave of in-person shows that highlight natural and mindful themes. Be inspired by the surrealist takes of artists from around the world.

The Americas is seeing interest in the metaverse continue with Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow in LA, running until September 25. This digitally immersive exhibit uses colourful motifs to unravel the metaverse through sculptures, paintings and installations. A great choice to get inspired by our Joyful Expression trend.

In LATAM, exhibits such as Buenos Aires's Aó textile episodes of the visual arts in Paraguay give visitors insight into the reclamation of traditional knowledge. Available until August 1, it highlights the stories behind Paraguayan fabrics as well as weaving learnings from the distant past and the near future.

For a deeper dive into cultural influences, EMEA offers Africa Fashion and Hallyu! The Korean Wave at the V&A Museum and In the Black Fantastic at Hayward Gallery in London. Drawing on photography, film and music, the exhibits narrate the timeline of cultures and how they have influenced pop culture. The Design Museum explores the connection between sensory experiential surrealism and ASMR. Afrochella and Accra Art Week are upcoming events that celebrate the creativity of the African continent.

APAC continues to explore the relationship between humans and the future via Ultra Unreal in Sydney and Meta-Horizons The Future Now in Seoul. Other immersive and sensual experiences include the Pipilotti Rist exhibition in Hong Kong’s Tai Kwun and the Immersive Museum in Tokyo. Listen to the Sound of the Earth Turning: Our Wellbeing Since the Pandemic in Tokyo is a must-see, offering a slower take on the world and our place in it.
